Threads: 4 (ritual; see text)
Weaving Difficulty: 17/22
Casting Difficulty: 20
Range: Touch
Duration: One day
Effect: Creates a temporary airship
Keywords: Air. Summoning. Ritual.
This ritual spell summons an air spirit and fashions it into an airship and arguably the fastest mode of transportation.
The spellcaster prepares a ritual circle that could contain the ship while weaving the threads. It must be prepared under an open sky and with significant clouds present. Each Thread Weaving test (or equivalent) takes 10 minutes.
The spellcaster reaches out, pulling in some of the clouds between their hands, brewing a storm within, and makes a Spellcasting (20) test.
If successful, the storm releases into the circle and an air spirit appears within. The spellcaster must pay the spirit one True air kernel per thread woven. Afterward, the spirit is fashioned into an impossibly sleek airship made from a crackling and swirling storm.
The spellcaster communicates or facilitates communicating the destination to the storm ship, which departs at the spellcaster’s command. Effectively communicating the destination to the air spirit requires Elemental Tongues and Navigation — “Parlainth” (or similar) is meaningless to the spirit.
Once the journey begins, it continues until the stated destination is reached, the spellcaster aborts the travel, or the duration expires. The destination cannot be changed mid-flight, only stopped.
It carries up to six passengers (regardless of their size) and travels at 30 miles per hour for the duration without pause or need for rest. The space a passenger would occupy can be exchanged for 100 lbs of cargo instead.
When commanded to stop or the duration expires, the storm ship lands as safely as possible.
The spellcaster can have one casting of this spell at a time.
