Duration: 1 day
Area of Effect: 20-yard radius
Effect: Keeps the riff-raff out
Keywords: Illusion. Ritual.
This spell creates the illusion of being intensely watched and in imminent danger around one building.
The spellcaster places one hand on the target and traces their personal glyph on it with the other while weaving threads — they may state up to Patterncraft rank Names or give a passphrase at this time. Each Thread Weaving test (or equivalent) takes 10 minutes.
The spellcaster quietly says, “I have a bad feeling about this,” and makes a Spellcasting (10) test.
If successful, the area is affected by a subtle illusion that causes all who pass within 4-yards to have the distinct feeling they're being watched by someone or something within the area. Only one building is affected if the area extends to multiple buildings. This is enough to keep all but the most persistent would-be intruders at bay with a “bad feeling about this.” The feeling intensifies for those who attempt to enter the affected area and they also see imminent danger at every turn.
Actions to enter and explore the area, and Sustained actions take twice as long due to these feelings, associated Action tests suffer -2 and Movement Rates are halved due to the increasing paranoia. The subtle nature of the illusion makes it particularly difficult to detect, though not impossible. Inspection of the spell pattern suggests there are hidden magical traps, which is exactly as expected based on their feelings.
Anyone initially Named or who speaks the passphrase is unaffected by the illusion and unlikely to know it exists at all.
