This spell extinguishes the target’s pattern.
The spellcaster must possess and have a thread woven to one of the target’s pattern items to cast this spell. The spellcaster cuts themselves and allows their blood to drip on the pattern item as they weave the threads. Each thread takes one hour to weave. They must take at least 10 damage which cannot be reduced by any means but may take more at their discretion.
The spellcaster uses this blood to draw their personal glyph and a glyph they use to represent the target, and makes a Spellcasting test against the target’s Mystic Defense.
If successful, the target suffers a Wound each round and the Effect test determines how much damage is inflicted each round — this can also inflict a Wound. The Effect Step gains a bonus equal to the damage the spellcaster inflicted on themselves while weaving threads.
If the target’s Current Damage meets or exceeds their Death Rating, they cannot be healed by any means, nor can they be brought back to life. They are beyond Death’s domain and their pattern is extinguished. There is no return from this spell.
This is particularly horrific to watch as the target’s pattern is rent asunder. They will probably never forget the screaming. The knowledge this spell exists at all is a closely held secret and is more of a rumor. The rare rumors with any additional information indicate it’s possible each spell is unique for the intended target. If anyone in Barsaive has knowledge of its existence, it’s certainly the Denairastas family of Iopos.
This spell can only target Namegivers and it’s unknown if it affects dragons.
