Threads: 4 (ritual; see text)
Weaving Difficulty: 18/23
Casting Difficulty: 20
Range: Self
Duration: 1 day
Area of Effect: 1-mile radius
Effect: Summons beast spirits
Keywords: Spirit. Ritual.
This powerful ritual summons all the beast spirits within the area and calls them to attend the spellcaster.
The spellcaster creates one glyph per thread that combines their personal sigil with representations of the beast spirits in the area. Each Thread Weaving test (or equivalent) takes one hour. The spellcaster calls to the spirits and makes a Spellcasting (10) test.
If successful, they can use their Summon [Beast Spirits] test within the spell’s duration to summon a council of beasts. The talent still takes 30 minutes to perform and the test result is compared to the Mystic Defense of all the beast spirits in the area.
All spirits the test succeeds against arrive at the spellcaster within 30 minutes under a metaphorical banner of peace to be respected by all parties. If the peace is broken, the spellcaster will have explaining to do and amends to make. If they are involved in breaking the peace, they can never summon the types of beasts in attendance again and all react violently to them on sight.
This summon must be made within the duration and the council concludes by the end.
Once the council concludes, the spell immediately ends.
Once the council of beasts is assembled, the spellcaster may bring a single matter before them and ask their judgment. The topic can be anything of concern to the beasts, whether relating to their domain, threats to them in general, requesting a favor and compensation, etc. This is deliberately broad, but it must be of interest to them, even if that interest is only benefiting through payment.
The council weighs what the spellcaster says and offers, and provides its advice.
The spellcaster cannot force the spirits to obey in any way, though can use Spirit Talk to sway them through persuasive arguments. These spirits can be powerful allies if they choose to help the spellcaster; they know everything related to their domain.
The gamemaster determines the spirits’ reaction based on a few factors: the relevance of the topic, offers and risks, the spellcaster’s presentation of the topic, and how much respect they showed for the spirits in the past. Has the spellcaster forged friendships, treated them well, ensured they were compensated for summonings, engaged in a contest of wills, bound spirits to items, etc.?
At the gamemaster’s discretion, the spirits choose whether or not to support the position depending on the aforementioned factors. If the spellcaster showed complete irreverence for spirits in the past, the reaction could range from outright denial of the request and returning home, to complete outrage and overtly hostile action once the council is complete and the onus of peace is lifted.
The spellcaster can only have one active casting of this spell at a time.
This spell cannot be cast on (e.g., Fifth Circle Wizard Karma ability) or by another character (e.g., Loan Spell).
